Even the most dour winemaker is something of an optimist: because more than most of us, winemakers are always dealing with the future: the future of their harvest, the future of their vineyards, of their new release wines and their older vintages. In the latest issue of Sunset, (sorry it’s not online yet!). I explore the east side of my home state and the winemakers that are making it such an exciting place to drink wine. I only wish I could have written more about them. Wines I particularly loved that I tasted on my trips last summer? Maison Bleue’s grenache, Rotie Cellar’s Northern Rhone Blend, Cadaretta SBS, Poet’s Leap Riesling, Hedges DLD Syrah, Abeja Chardonnay, K Vintner’s The Boy, Gramercy Cellars Inigo Montoya Tempranillo, and the Unknown Syrah at Reynvaan, and Amavi Syrah. But that’s just a start….
I’d love to know what Eastern Washington wineries you love the most.

Sara – very nice piece in Sunset! Great work, although I am bummed that we’ve not connected yet. Hope to in the future, we have an interesting story and enjoy the benefits of growing in Red Mountain and making our wine (and living) in Walla Walla. Kind of the best of both worlds. I would very much encourage people to stop by The Incubators up at the Port of Walla Walla. Visitors can hit Corvus – Kontos – Cavu all in a row without getting back in their cars. Great setting, fabulous views and wonderful wines. Cheers!
Thanks Randall, I’ll stop by next time I’m east. Best wishes for the season.
